ARK: Survival Evolved Introduces New Battle Mode

Studio Wildcard unveiled a completely new way to experience the dinosaur-filled land of the wildly successful game ARK: Survival Evolved last friday. This new “Survival of the Fittest” mode introduces a brand new last man standing contest, designed to create a new dynamic in the world of ARK.

Starting at 12 PM PST on August 1, 2015, Studio Wildcard’s Kayd Hendricks and Twitch’s Alex “Goldenboy” Mendez will host a live five-hour tournament to debut “Survival of the Fittest” from the Twitch headquarters. Thirty-five teams will step into the ARK arena to compete in the Hunger Games-style death match where the last tribe standing will receive a $20.000 prize along with gaming gear from Logitech and Gunnar Optiks. During the event, the Twitch audience will be able to vote on Evolution Events – powerful world-altering sequences that will occur every 30 minutes (Supply Drop, Crazy Weather, etc.). Kayd and Alex will deliver play-by-play and color commentary of the action from a spectator point-of-view, with both pre- and post-interviews from fallen warriors as they exit the battle.

Much like the Hunger Games themselves, in this game mode contestants begin in a neutral staging area in which they can communicate pre-game to strategize or talk trash. After a count-down, they will dramatically descend from the sky onto the ARK in a circular formation via beams of light. There are a bunch of valuable items in the centre, and it’s up to the players to decide if they dash for the goods, endangering their lives or if they run into the forest to hide. A continually shrinking “ring of death” forces contestants closer to each other over time, so there’ll be no way to avoid fights in the end.

If you want to join the world of ARK, you can head over to Steam to download the game.
