After nearly ten years of operation, Atlantica Online details shutdown and relaunch plans in an official forum post made this past Wednesday.
As stated by Community Manager OneLetter, Atlantica Online will go dark due to a dwindling community and lack of player retention.
“Nexon America, NDOORS and Daum have arrived at the difficult decision to discontinue our service of Atlantica Online. Publishing rights will be transferred to VALOFE Global Ltd, an online and mobile game developer and subsidiary of VALOFE.”
The Atlantica Online game will live on, however, as the title is slated to relaunch as a mobile game by VALOFE. Additionally, existing players will be able to transfer their account data from the current game to the mobile version. Details on how account transfers will work are expected to be announced soon.
We never like to see a game go dark, but the rationale makes business sense, and the fact that the game will still live on in a mobile game format is some comfort to existing players. Being able to not have to start from scratch is also most welcome and is probably one of the best thank yous an MMO game developer can offer.
Atlantica Online players, will you be taking advantage of the service transfer to mobile? Or is this the final nail in the coffin for you? Share your thoughts and your experiences below.
