Bardin Goreksson, the Dwarf Ranger, joins Vermintide

Fatshark announced Bardin Goreksson today, a new playable character in their upcoming game Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide.

New Playable Character: Bardin Goreksson

Developer Fatshark announced today that its latest character reveal for Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide is Bardin Goreksson, the Dwarf Ranger. Proving that size does indeed matter, Bardin brings a tenacious fighting ability to the Vermintide lineup. The Dwarf Ranger’s deft ability with a crossbow and hand gun, combined with his unbridled ferocity using the war hammer and battle axe, makes Bardin Goreksson an invaluable asset when the rat-men charge.

Bardin Goreksson: The Dwarf Ranger

Dwarf Rangers are not very common in fantasy RPGs. They are traditionally miners–smiths that specialize in heavy armor and heavy weapons. Vermintide is changing things a little though by adding Bardin Goreksson to the roster. Hailing from the Grey Mountains, Goreksson is the game’s fourth playable hero. Fatshark discusses their decision to choose a ranger dwarf in a recent dev blog post. They write:

Much like we felt that a Waywatcher Wood Elf was a much needed member of our group of heroes, we also felt that we absolutely needed to include a dwarf. The challenge was finding the right kind of dwarf, both from a lore and a gameplay perspective. Chaos dwarves were off the list quickly, and most other dwarf professions are geared towards underground activities among their kin, which simply didn’t suit our needs. For those professions that are commonly seen above ground, most have either a melee or ranged focus, which made them less optimal for our chosen gameplay style. We therefore felt that the best fit for Vermintide was a Dwarf Ranger.

Utilizing an arsenal of axes and guns, Bardin Goreksson is perfectly suited for team fights and brawls.

In Vermintide, the city of Ubersreik is under siege as players select from a band of five heroes with different play-styles and abilities, all equipped with unique gear and personalities. Working together cooperatively, players must use their individual attributes to survive an apocalyptic invasion from hordes of relentless, power hungry Skaven, across a range of environments stretching from the top of the Magnus Tower to the bowels of the Under Empire.
