EVE Online developers CCP Games have been extending further into the virtual reality camp, with EVE Valkyrie due in spring 2016 for the Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR, and EVE Gunjack scheduled to release later this month on November 20th for the Samsung Gear VR. Today CCP have announced that they have raised $30 million to go towards the development of virtual realty content.
The investment, coming from New Enterprise Associates with participation from the private equity firm Novator Partners LLP, will go towards positioning CCP at the forefront of virtual reality as the technology evolves and potentially transforms not just the gaming industry, but the entertainment industry.
“We believe VR will revolutionize not just videogames, but the wider technology and media industry as a whole,” said Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, CEO of CCP. “We were there at the beginning, and this investment will give us strength to maintain our leading development efforts.”
