The writing certainly felt like it was on the wall, but now we can indeed confirm that a Hyper Universe PC shutdown in the West is on the way, leaving fans of the side-scrolling MOBA on the platform out of luck.
“This was not an easy decision to make; we’ve worked hard to make this game as great as it could possibly be, and have poured our hearts into building out this unique cast of lovable characters,” reads the official announcement. “We’re incredibly grateful to our fans for playing—none of this would have been possible without you.”
Hyper Universe’s cash shop will be closed on November 15th and refunds will be issued for those who purchased items between August 2018 and October 2018. After that, December 19th will see the servers shut off and January 19th will see customer service for the MOBA end.
On the flip side, the game continues to live on Xbox One and is even seeing an update today that will bring two new characters, ranked play, and a Halloween event. More details on that update are due to be posted on the official site.
Bit of bad news, good news then. It’s a pity the game didn’t grab hearts and minds on PC, but considering the big-name competition for the genre on that platform it’s also perhaps not a terribly great surprise. Ideally, those PC players will find a home on the Xbox One version and we wish the devs of the game on PC the best of luck in any future endeavors.Hyper Universe, MOBA, News, PC, Shutdown, Sunset
