PC games might not be the top grossing digital category anymore, due to the rise of the mobile empire, but the platform still holds many of the individual top performers. League of Legends maintained its dominance in 2015 as the highest grossing digital game with slightly more than $1.6 billion in Revenue.

Second place belongs to Supercell’s Clash of Clans with $1.3 billion, but the next three spots swap back to the PC. CrossFire, Dungeon Fighter Online and World of Warcraft all made more profit last year than any mobile or console game except for Clash of Clans.

Trends show a rise in profit for nearly all categories and platforms except for social games (-0.8%) and subscription-based games (-4%), which have been on the decline for a while. Mobile games are continuing to trend upwards, with a 10% increase in sales last year, but the top PC titles are still earning more than the other platforms. Despite this, mobile games as a whole are now earning the most total revenue.

Our Thoughts:

Digital console sales have never been a huge market and mobile games are more accessible than any other platform in the world. However, nearly all PC game purchases are made through digital distributors and many games don’t have the option for physical copies.
