Yesterday kicked off the Sea of Thieves closed beta test, but it’s been rough going for many people as eager players run into a variety of errors that prevent them from connecting to the game entirely. As a result, the devs have announced that the beta will be extended.
“We know your gaming hours are precious and our number one goal is to get everyone with Closed Beta access into the game as soon as possible,” wrote Rare’s engagement manager Emma Bridle. To that point, the closed beta will now run until Wednesday, January 31st at 8am GMT/3am EST. The Design an Achievement contest is also being extended.
“We want to ensure that anyone who has missed out on any time sailing the seas still gets to enjoy the Closed Beta to its fullest,” writes Bridle.
In the meantime, the devs are continuing to work with their Xbox partners to resolve “too early” error messages that spring up for those who pre-ordered Sea of Thieves digitally. A fix has been rolled out, but the fix is taking longer to roll out than expected. If you are among those experiencing the error, a dedicated help article has been created to help fix the issue.
Well, the beta is a beta! It’s good that the Sea of Thieves team have decided to extend testing, though. We hope that the errors are sorted out soon and that everyone can get to play the game without any further issues.
