SOE has announced today that their upcoming sandbox MMO Landmark will include Player Studio support, starting this spring. As part of the rollout, Player Studio creators in selected regions outside of the North American region, will be able to submit in-game items across all Player Studio-supported games. Player Studio of course allows players to edit and sell items in games like Everquest or Planetside 2.
Enterprising gamers and creators can seize the opportunity to create items that can be sold in this in-game marketplace, in the game of their choosing. Revenue is then shared with the players who sell their virtual stuff. Previously, only those living in the United States were able to make use of this feature. Now, with Landmark, SOE opens the door for players around the whole world to participate and build whatever they can directly within the game itself, by using Landmark’s powerful and flexible toolset.
Creators can save their creations, be it an alien space ship, or a magnificent castle or whatever they can come up with, directly to a template, which then can be sold on Player Studio if it gets approved. Designers and creators who have been dreaming to make a name for themselves can start small and simple with this added feature. There is a great opportunity to be had for those wanting to build a reputation within the community of their favorite game. Fame and fortune awaits those who are successful in what they create.
“Landmark offers powerful and intuitive tools that enable players to build just about anything they can imagine,” said Dave Georgeson, Director of Development, EverQuest franchise. “Players who choose to participate will be able to make meaningful royalties by building in and playing the game they love. Our vision is that some prolific and talented creators will turn this into a full-time career.”
With the coming launch of Player Studio for Landmark, SOE sees a potential dramatic change in increase, by order of magnitude, the number of players able to participate in the program. Players in other games like EverQuest 1 and 2, and Planetside 2 have already delved in to the program with great success to boot.
