World of Warcraft is Letting You Fight for the Enemy Faction

World of Warcraft have revealed a new feature in an attempt to remedy PvP queue times on particularly faction-unbalanced servers. Known as “Mercenary Mode”, players will be able to fight in Ashran (Warlords of Draenor’s PvP zone) or unrated battlegrounds on the side of the enemy faction whenever their faction is experiencing a long wait time.

Totally not an Orc.

How will this work, you ask? Whenever your faction is experiencing long wait times for Ashran or unrated battlegrounds, agents of the enemy faction will appear in your Ashran base. You will be able to talk to these agents to gain access to enter Ashran or battlegrounds disguised as a member of the opposing faction and fight for the other side.

Your race will be automatically changed to one appropriate for the other side, and in participating in Mercenary Mode you will still earn the same rewards as you would have were you fighting for your own faction, with the exception of faction-specific achievements.

The goal is to simply decrease PvP queue times for World of Warcraft by filling groups up much faster via the matchmaking system but still maintaining the ‘Alliance vs. Horde’ motif.

Mercenary Mode is up on the World of Warcraft Public Test Realm now.
