World of Warcraft is headed to the land down under. Sorry Australia, I went there. Blizzard announced today that for the first time ever Australian servers will be launched for the most popular MMO of all time. Players from Australia and New Zealand who play on a North American server will be given free character transfers and guild transfers to help them move to the new servers. But don’ worry, thanks to the structure of the servers in World of Warcraft you’ll still be able to play with all your friends you made in North America, you’ll just have better latency.
Blizzard hopes to have the servers live before Warlords of Draenor goes live and have set a tentative date of October 28th for the servers to be activated. At that time all Oceanic servers will go offline for an extended maintenance while player data is moved. This will give Blizzard time to smooth out any issues that pop up before the November 13th launch of Warlords of Draenor. To move from the North American servers players will first have to pay for a character transfer but that money will be refunded within 72 hours. This only applies if you do so before November 13th. You can find all the information you need to know plus a handy FAQ on the new servers on the World of Warcraft official forums.Related: Australia, Blizzard Entertainment, News, Servers, World of Warcraft
