What’s more frustrating than a problem? One that doesn’t have an obvious solution. That appears to be the issue faced by the World of Warcraft devs as the patch 8.0 leveling experience is indeed not where it should be, but the team aren’t entirely sure why.
The explanation shared on the game’s forums opened with assurances that the devs aren’t actively ignoring complaints. The reason the team isn’t fixing the issues being brought up is because they’re not sure where the problem lies, even after testing current leveling metrics against a patch 7.3.5 build that first introduced level scaling.
“We are seeing the same sort of discrepancies that folks in this thread and others have pointed out, but still have yet to pinpoint the exact aspect of scaling that we failed to account for. We want to understand WHY the numbers are off and fix the underlying cause: Were stats on gear reduced too much? Some aspect of creature armor or other combat calculations?”
In the meantime, while the devs work to answer these questions, they plan to deploy an overall health reduction while a more targeted solution is worked out. Additionally, a series of changes to smooth the leveling curve from 60 and up will be released.
…man, that is just weird. But at least the devs are aware of the fact and are trying to puzzle it out. Considering the amount of outcry over the leveling problems, perhaps the blanket solution is best for now.
